PSA: Avoid Being Surprised With Website Downtime By Taking This Simple Step

With how important e-commerce transactions and website leads are to businesses, it’s important to make sure that your website – and registrar – stay optimized for continued performance.

As of January 1, 2014, ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Name and Numbers) began requiring that your contact information is verified anytime a new domain registration or renewal is processed. While this went into effect a while ago, the impact is rearing it’s head for those who had their domain purchased for a handful of years out.

Registrars are reaching out before the renewal to the contact on file for verification before it renews. Very often companies are not verifying their email address due to an older email address or a former employee being listed as a contact.

When this verification is not completed, your domain is suspended (taking down your site) until you verify that contact address by clicking a link in an email, sent to the contact email listed for the domain.

So, be sure to check your domain contact information and keep it updated – providing piece of mind that your site won’t go down as a result of missing that verification email.

It’s a simple step to ensure continued performance of your web leads and e-commerce transactions.
